Anxiety, a mental disorder we should care about

What’s anxiety and how does it work ?

Anxiety disorder usually touch young adults from the age of 25 to 44 years old, but it can affect children as well. It is often said that anxiety, and depression work together. It is not all the time, but it is nice to keep this in mind so we can keep an eye on the person so she doesn’t fall into deep in depression, but if this occurs (there is nothing dramatic here), she will be taking care of just in time.
Anxiety is an emotion used to draw our attention to a potential danger so we can take all the precautions needed to avoid it. So it is pretty normal to have anxiety. However, it can happens that some persons have an anxiety way too high, resulting into an confusing routine, making life impossible, and could be a drastic risk to his/her health.

Anxiety can manifest itself into various forms : social phobias, panic attacks… Each person can feel it differently, but what comes out the most are panic attacks, and this feeling of not having control of our own emotions anymore. It can effect the smallest decision you have to take such as « What should I eat for lunch? », and transform it as having the destiny of the planet between your hands. One thing that simple can take suddenly huge proportions.

Having anxiety daily makes the routine almost impossible to do. Some can have a panic attack when they have to take the phone to make a phone call for example. On the long term, it can makes life like hell.

List of what can cause anxiety (may vary)

  • Having trouble ordering food at a restaurant
  • Counting its change multiple times
  • Having panic attacks because there are too many people
  • Think that others are mocking us all the time
  • Too much analyzing words and situations

What are the psychological symptoms ?

(Nice lists right ? Still want to say that anxiety is only in the head, and it’s something easy to manage?)

What to do if you have anxiety ?

First, before taking an appointment to your doctor who will mostly give you an anti-depressant (yes I can see the surprise on your face… Some anti-depressant can have an effect on anxiety), but I would suggest to try natural treatment.

PS : The next section is about brands who are easily to find in France, as I am French. BUT, if any of you have some names available in the US or the UK, please feel free to share it in the comment section ! I do not want to leave someone behind :)

For those who are available in drugstore :

I’ve tried « EUPHYTOSE - Stress », some types of small pills that looks like Smarties chocolates (120 pills in the bottle). The packaging is very attracting : green with this « we heal by the plants too » vibe. The only negative thing is : it did not work at all on me ! (notice that my anxiety is what’s the most nearest to generalized anxiety). However, it might work on someone else ! So if your anxiety is recent, you might give it a try !

Another drugstore (or pharmacy) recommended me two others food supplement : « DYNABIANE » which helps to reduce fatigue and « FORMAG » which helps the nervous system to work normaly (can also helps to reduce fatigue). I recommend to take those two for a short period of time (until the boxes are empty).

« NOVANUIT » (there is also « NOVANUIT + STRESS » which is another food supplement that helps the sleep process, and limit the number of dreams. You should have regular nights ;)

« RHODIOLE et SAFRAN » helps your organism to adapt to emotional stress and helps to stabilize your mood. I would say that this one is the last one you should try before considering taking anti-depressant. You can feel its effects after a few days, but you can feel a difference. You will soon notice you get back to your hobbies a step at the time.

Aside from pills/food supplements, you will find some ideas/tips to help fight anxiety :
  • Yoga
  • Relaxation exercises
  • Listening to music
  • Eat something you like
  • Take a blanket and watch a movie or a TV show
  • Take a hot bath (you can add some candles)
  • If something is on your mind, and you don’t want to talk about it to your friends or family (or you can’t), see a therapist. It will help a lot !
  • Keep a diary (or a journal). Writing down your thoughts and your day will help you get rid of them
  • Art therapy helps your mind keeping negative thoughts away
  • Do some exercises
  • Take a walk in the nature
  • Sleep in clean sheets
  • Use some essential oils
  • Go have a massage
  • Make an appointment to a relaxation therapist
  • Get a foot massage
  • Read a book, or a magazine
  • Take care of yourself (get your nails done…)
  • Sing
  • Try to avoid website talking about health issues (they might not the best to consult)
  • Try to avoid negative persons (friends and/or family), and people who will more likely helps your anxiety than you

And lastly, if your own doctor do not take your anxiety seriously, do not hesitate to consult another one !
